The Star Finch, also known as the Red-faced Finch and Rufous-tailed Finch, is endemic to Australia. One of the primary threats to this bird is the continued degradation of its natural habitat, due to overgrazing and burning during the dry season. It is also threatened by the caged-bird trade. The Star Finch has three subspecies: Neochmia ruficauda subclarescens, Neochmia ruficauda clarescens, and Neochmia ruficauda ruficauda (extremely rare, thought to be extinct). |
