The first STAR WARS stands as one of the all-time great 'concept' movies. It rolled old serials, fantasy sci-fi, and imaginative f/x into a devastatingly appealing package ...whose actual execution needed merely to be credible (...though it was often much better). Whether or not that makes SW great , I have to appreciate such a well- aimed tapping of the public tree, even if what ran forth was sap. The first one doesn't hold up well at all; the second one was pretty good, worth seeing twice when it first came out; the third one was fatally flawed; and the last three have been overdone, tedious bores. It all amounts to just one pretty good movie, 'The Empire Strikes Back'. (IMO) Reply: If someone told me the first one (or second, I guess

Spinal Tap is brilliant. Is it _really_? Or is it just amusing? It is brilliant. And it's likely that anyone who believes otherwise is someone who either has an axe to grind against rock music, or simply doesn't know much about its history. Well there ya go!

THIS IS SPINAL TAP Spinal Tap is brilliant. Is it _really_? Or is it just amusing? Apparently quite a few viewers thought it was a genuine documentary and I think I read somewhere that _STING_ contemplated suing the makers because he thought they were taking the mickey out of him so it's rather more than just an amusing movie. THIS IS SPINAL TAP Spinal Tap is brilliant. Is it _really_? Or is it just amusing? Apparently quite a few viewers thought it was a genuine documentary and I think I read somewhere that _STING_ contemplated suing the makers because he thought they were taking the mickey out of him so it's rather more than just an amusing movie. Actually, just about EVERY music group thought they were the target of at least one of the jokes (all except for KISS, who actually *was* one of the targets near the end, but that one was too easy)
