While allowing that the Red Cross is doing everything they can, West - who delivered an emotional outburst at the American Music Awards after he was snubbed for an award - declared that government authorities are intentionally dragging their feet on aid to the Gulf Coast. Without getting specific, he added, They've given them permission to go down and shoot us. Shooting isn't the answer.  However, I've no doubt that aid may have arrived at least 24 hours earlier had more N.O. residents been able to organize and/or control themselves.  This tragic and sad, but nonetheless it happened. Hard to blame the Republicans in Louisiana, which is traditionally (and currently) a Democratic power _base_ (one of the last in the Deep South).  I don't even think the problems are racial so much as a function of class and the culture of that area and city.  The only good thing to come of this is that things may begin to change now. In the meantime, I have donated all I can to the Red Cross and will follow up with future pay periods.  I hope others who haven't yet done so will consider doing the same. RS

The other loonacy wasn't a problem I suppose. Still, I'm impressed they were willing to let his statements speak for themselves.
